The original Hammond Square Mall opened in 1977 with two anchors, D. H. Holmes (later purchased and converted to Dillard’s) and Sears along with two levels of specialty tenants. In 1979, JCPenney was added as the third anchor to complete the 431,000 square foot mall.
In early 2006, the owner of Hammond Square Mall placed the property up for sale. Having previously developed AMC Theatre and owning several adjacent parcels to the mall, Palace Properties, LLC decided to purchase the mall. In 2007, Stirling Properties began the redevelopment of the mall into an open-air power and lifestyle shopping center. Stirling Properties’ Chairman James E. Maurin took great pride in improving a mall that had been in decline for 20 years and delivering a re-developed retail center to his hometown with new national and local retailers.
Proudly serving the Hammond community, the new Hammond Square celebrated their grand opening in October 2009. Upon completion, the center will be 850,000 square feet, nearly double its original size, with over 35 different stores and restaurants to meet all needs and wants.
Hammond Square is part of Stirling Properties’ retail portfolio which also includes: River Chase, Clearview Mall, Premier Centre, Stirling Bossier, Stirling Lafayette, Stirling Slidell, and Eastgate Shopping Center, to name a few.
